Manuscript, in several hands, of a collection of several hundred entries, primarily poems and newspaper clippings on elegiac, sentimental, or lighthearted subjects. The collection includes verse epitaphs on an infant and on the death of Princess Charlotte, as well as an address to a mother on the death of a sweet girl aged 12 years. Other poems include those by George Byron, Walter Scott, and Robert Southey, as well as unattributed poems on remembrance, absence, and the Bible. Several poems are attributed to George De Boseo Attwood, aged 12 and 13 years, including one written to his mother. The volume also contains many lighthearted and satirical pieces, including numerous riddles, puns, anagrams, and conundrums; a poem satirizing William Shenstone; and a humorous glossary of common words. One anecdote is labeled "related to me by Miss Edgeworth the authoress." Several printed works are also bound in to the volume, including two missionary pamphlets reporting on India and Sierra Leone and an excerpt from Laurence Sterne's Sentimental journey. Laid in to the volume are two pieces of paper addressed to "Miss Careless," including one dated 1812, signed Catherine Murray, which includes numerous personal details about the correspondents.
